iOS 16 Review - Is this the new Revolution of iPhone OS?
Information regarding new features added to iOS 16
On June 6, 2022 Apple revealed its most awaited iOS 16 to the world along with other updates such as iPad OS 16, macOS Ventura, watch OS 9, and tv OS 16. In this blog we are gonna talk only about iOS 16. WWDC 2022 is an online event due to COVID 19 but Tim Cook and his team try their best to amaze and inform us about the new features of the iOS 16. So lets check some of the great features of the iOS 16 and find out whether this OS is Revolutionary or not?
1. Lock Screen
This year Apple as made various changes to its iOS 16 lock screen. Mostly Apple lock screens are considered as least customizable in comparison with Android but this year Apple has break this tradition with iOS 16. You can customize the lock screen by simply holding the lock screen and click on customize button. You can make changes in the text of the lock screen such as change the design and color of the text.

Now you can add widgets on the lock screen as well, a feature we can see on Android devices. Apple has added various types of widgets to the lock screen such as weather, calendar, daily fitness etc. You can also add more than one widget to the lock screen.

You can also add multiple lock screens with different wallpapers and widgets. This is an interesting feature as you will get already customized lock screens in wallpapers gallery. Also you can personalize it as per your inspiration. You can switch between them with just a simple swipe on screen.

2. Notifications
iOS 16 also brings changes to the appearance of the notifications on the lock screens so that you don’t get bombarded with lots and lots of notifications which will cover your lock screen. Now in new iOS, the notifications will roll in from the bottom of the screen and they will hide as well so that it will not cover your wallpaper.

3. Live Activities
You can see that some of the apps such as sports app give regular updates in the form of new notifications related to scores which will cover half of your screen. To solve this. a new feature is introduced known as Live Activities. Live Activities make changes to the real time notifications instead of just sending lots and lots of notifications related to the same content. Also during playing music you can expand the music notification to Fullscreen for better experience.

4. Messages

Messages app is one of the most important part of iOS which is most widely used by people. So Apple has make quite the changes in their messages app in order to make it more user friendly. The new feature is added known as Edit and Delete the sent messages, which allows the user to make changes or edit the text which is already sent by the user and delete the sent messages. You can also mark your thread Unread so that you can check them later.
5. SharePlay
SharePlay allows you to connect with your friends or family through Facetime and Messages while you are using apps such as listening music, watching movie etc. With this feature, you can watch the movies and share your experience with your buddy together in sync while doing chat on Messages.

6. Dictation
Dictation app lets you to type just by speaking. As per Apple, it is used 18 billion times a month. The new dictation feature includes fluidly move between voice and touch. The keyboard remains open so that you can switch easily between voice and touch. Some other feature includes selecting text with voice, add punctuation to the text, adding emoji through voice etc.

7. Live Text
Live Text allows you to interact with the text of the image through camera, screenshot, browser etc. This year, Live Text is introduced to the video as well. You can interact with the text from the video by pausing the video. Also you can use the camera in order to translate the text, converting the currency etc.

8. Visual LookUp
Visual Lookup feature is used in order to get rich information regarding a particular image. The image may include animal, environment etc. In iOS 16, they have moved one step further. Now you can hold on to the subject of the image and drag that subject to other apps such as Messages in the form of image.

9. Wallet
Apple has made various updates to their Wallet app as well including more security and privacy. Wallet includes In-app ID verification which allows you to securely provide your ID and age verification to the app. You can take care of your privacy such as if you don’t want to reveal your age, you can just use over age 22 option.
Now you can share Wallet keys with your friends by using apps such as Messages, WhatsApp etc.

10. Apple Pay
Apple is introducing Tap to Pay feature which help the customers to pay to the merchants with just a tap without using any other hardware.
Apple Pay Later is also introduced in which you can make payments later in four equal payments with zero interest and no fees and it is spread over six weeks. You can manage these payments through wallet.

There is another feature known as Apple Pay Order Tracking through which merchants can share the detailed information about your shipped order on your Wallet.
11. Maps

This year Maps includes more improved details to transit and driving navigation, cycling, lookaround etc. and it is introduced to 11 more countries this year. One of the feature included in Maps is Multistop Routing which help you to plan 15 stops in advance. You can share these between Mac and iPhone as well.
You can use lookaround feature to get ground like view of any place on the Maps app. You can also use Transit feature in order to check the total cost of the journey on the Maps.
12. Apple News
Apple has made some updates in Apple News app. A new section as added in Apple News named as My Sports where you can check details regarding all your followed sports teams and leagues. It also includes scores, schedules and standings as well as latest highlights and these all are linked with your Apple devices.

13. Family Sharing
With Family Sharing, you can share your subscriptions and purchases with up to 5 family members so they don't have to buy these subscriptions again. You can also use parental controls for the kids of the family. Apple has also added Family Checklist which provide some important tips such as updating child’s parental control settings as they get older, share your iCloud subscription with everyone etc.

14. Photos
Apple has added new feature to Photos app known as iCloud Share Photo Library which is a collaborative type of iCloud photo library where you can share photos with others. This is easy to set and you can share the photos more seamlessly. You can also select whether you want to share the images automatically or manually. The Shared Library option is also available in camera so that you can share the image as soon as after clicking the image and you can disable the option if you don’t want to share the image. If someone edited the photo, the edited image can be seen by others as well.

15. Privacy
Apple always takes care of the privacy of its customers. To improve privacy and personal safety, Apple introduced Safety Check feature which help you to quickly review and reset your granted access. This helps in stop sharing your location and resets privacy permissions with others. It also helps in protecting access to your messages by signing out of iCloud from all other devices.

These are some of the features announced at the WWDC 2022. This year Apple has worked more upon making their iOS more customizable such as adding widgets to the lock screen, live activities, add multiple lock screens and wallpapers etc. By adding these features, iOS 16 can be considered as the new Revolution of iPhone OS.
